Thanks for posting. It is really hard to develop a personal balance both online and in person in regards to attention seeking and abusive behaviors. This is some good advice.Meredithnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7404345771022225541.post-32403353110349014882012-11-03T16:10:55.736-07:002012-11-03T16:10:55.736-07:00I have chosen to not engage in most online forums ...I have chosen to not engage in most online forums where "snark" is the normal and usual mode of interaction. I just don't have the patience for it. I do, however, maintain a blog, and I am occasionally accosted by "trolls" there as well. The prevalence of combative and negative souls in the cyber universe is truly staggering. Over the years, I've taken a number of approaches to dealing with those folks -- sometimes I ignore and sometimes I engage. Sometimes, I just delete them and move on. Lately, I've used my statistics program to help me shine a light on these types. Since they are almost always "anonymous," I do what I can to identify them in some way. Then, if I do choose to address them, I do it with that information out front, making it clear that I know where they are located, etc. It is amazing how truly affronted the average anonymous troll can get if you put the spotlight on them.

Thanks for addressing this so thoughtfully.

swanSuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03961893281142538409noreply@blogger.com
